Lemonise

Lemonise are an eclectic four-piece act from Sydney’s Inner West presenting Yidaki (didgeridoo)-infused psychedelic rock. Fronted by First Nations vocalist Jake Magi alongside guitarist Maya Riv, bassist Gene Griffin and drummer Morgan Monk, Lemonise presents earthy riffs and rhythms resonant with the dramatic beauty of the NSW South Coast, a spiritual home and place of inspiration for the band.

Together the members of Lemonise craft a sound that could sit comfortably in a playlist alongside artists such as King Stingray, Mako Road and Velvet Trip.

The band formed towards the end of 2022 in Maya’s last year of high school, through a casual jam session at a thrift store – Recycletastic on Enmore Road. There was an immediate musical chemistry, and Jake and Maya began to play in venues all around Sydney, multiple times a week – at open mics, small local shows and at university. Later, Morgan and Gene (drummer and bassist respectively) joined the group and they began to play a wider variety of gigs on the East Coast.

All members of the band are young university students studying music; three at the Sydney Conservatorium, and one at JMC. They are all very passionate and active members of their local music community.

Together as Lemonise, the band aims to produce authentic music with heart, and to develop and deliver an energetic live show that is both visually and sonically engaging and immersive for their audience.
